Lind, Alice 1859-1942
Mrs. John Lind was born at Dartford, Green Lake County, Wisconsin. Her parents were Richard Shepard and Rowena Stratton Shephard. Richard Shephard was a soldier in the Union army during the Civil War. His grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary army. Mrs. Lind attended Normal school at Mankato, graduating in 1875; taught five years; married John Lind, who in 1886 was elected to congress, and she spent eight years in the national capital. When Mr. Lind was elected governor of Minnesota in 1900 the family moved to Saint Paul. During the administration of President Wilson, Mrs Lind accompanied her husband on a special mission to Mexico. Mrs. Lind is mother of four children; Norman, Jenny, Winifred, and John Lind Jr. Mrs. Lind was interested in club work for women. She was a member of Women's Club, Fine Arts Society, the Old Trails chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as chairman of administration work for latter organization. She was one of the promotors of the penny lunch in public schools; an ardent worker for prohibition, and served in Washington during the war.
